Sports Injury Rehabilitation

As you may know, getting injured in sports is quite common. However, what you may not know is that there are many rehabilitation processes to go through in order to restore pre-injury function and prevent reoccurrence. Too frequently people undergo rehabilitation up until pain-free movement and stop there.

Realistically, that is only the beginning. After we suffer an injury, even after achieving pain-free movement, our strength, flexibility, mobility and stability can all still be significantly reduced, even within just 2 weeks of rest and recovery.

At Infinite Health, our Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists specialise in ALL stages of rehabilitation for sporting injuries, from the initial hands-on treatment phase, to localised rehab up until restoring pre-injury performance. Obviously, the key for all sports injuries is to rehab completely and then prevent further injury. If this is not done, then you will be putting yourself at risk of further injury later down the track, or won’t recover 100%.

Listed below are the stages of the rehabilitation process for a sports injury.

Sports Injury Achillies tendinopathy, ankle and hamstring strains, patellofemoral pain, ITB syndrome, etc.

Promote healing & recovery Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation, hands-on physiotherapy treatment!

Localised Exercise Rehabilitation Exercise rehabilitation focused on restoring flexibility, mobility, strength and stability at the site of the injury.

Functional Rehabilitation Exercise rehabilitation focused on improving functional strength and movement patterns, for e.g. squats, single leg deadlifts, lunges etc.

Sports Specific Rehabilitation Exercise rehabilitation based on specific movements or actions required from your sport, for e.g. multidirectional lunges whilst catching and throwing a ball for tennis-specific rehabilitation.

Sports Performance Sports specific conditioning, improved speed, agility, power, reaction time, proprioception.

Injury Prevention On-going management and sports-specific strength training to prevent future injuries.

As you can see, there are certainly more stages than you may have realised. Whether you’re just a weekend warrior or a professional athlete, no one likes to be injured.

At Infinite Health, we specialise in running, tennis, soccer and basketball-related injuries or injury prevention training, and have had plenty of experience in various other sports.
