Frequently Asked Questions

What does a Chiropractor do?

Chiropractic care is a type of healthcare that focuses on the spine and the nervous system. Chiropractors work to reduce pain, improve alignment, and increase range of motion to the back and surrounding joints. Where physiotherapists focus on muscular physiology, chiropractors focus on the joints and spinal system.

How does it work?

Your chiropractor will work with your to help with your alignment, movement, and posture. Chiropractic care can be really effective in improving pain, range of motion, and posture in that it focuses on improving spinal alignment which is essential for the function of the nervous system.

Stress (mental and physical), including trauma, unhealthy posture and weakness can cause vertebrae to become misaligned, and cause issues with your spinal system. The technical term for this dysfunction is called “vertebral subluxation”. When left untreated, spinal stress and subluxations can lead to pain and discomfort.

Chiropractors focus on identifying and removing subluxations, helping your body to heal and function at its best. This will usually take the form of adjustments of the spine in your chiro session. These adjustments will be gentle and are very effective in restoring movement and alignment of the spine.

Do I need a doctor’s referral to see a Chiropractor?

No - you can book directly with our North Sydney chiropractors without a referral. If you have a relevant diagnosis or additional information about your injury, such as X-rays, we encourage you to bring it along to your appointment so that our team can take it into consideration when making an assessment.

How long are Chiropractic appointments?

We offer the following appointments to suit your condition and budget:

  1. Short (25 minutes) – Suitable for simpler conditions or for the more budget-conscious patient.

  2. Standard (40 minutes) – Suitable for most conditions.

  3. Long (55 minutes) – Suitable for multiple injuries or chronic and severe pain.

  4. Adjustment only (15-20 minutes) – Adjustments only. Ideal for ongoing management of stable conditions.

Initial consultations include a thorough assessment as well as immediate treatment or a treatment plan to relieve pain and discomfort.

What is included in my appointment?

Depending on the length of your appointment and the type of injury that we treat, your individual appointment deliverables may look different. However, your session will usually include:

  • Full body assessment

  • Hands-on treatment of injury

  • Corrective exercises

  • Follow-up plan with a Chiropractor

What should I wear or bring to my appointment?

We recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing to your chiropractic appointment so we can properly assess your injury and the problem areas. If you’re a runner, walker, or sportsperson, it is a good idea to wear the footwear that you typically wear when exercising.

How many sessions will I need with a Chiropractor in North Sydney?

The number of sessions required depends on the severity of your injury and the type of treatment plan recommended by our North Sydney chiropractic team. Based on your first assessment, we’ll recommend a treatment plan that includes pain relief tips and a follow-up assessment schedule.

Will I need to do anything after my appointment?

Our Chiropractors may suggest some exercises to relieve the pain and provide recommendations on things that you should avoid (slouching, improper posture etc.).

Just like anything, you get out exactly what you put in. Our patients that attend regular appointments and complete the recommended exercises see better, longer-lasting results than those that visit us for a once-off appointment.
